[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]John Lennon[/lastfm] knew all along he was a genius
but [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Yoko Ono[/lastfm] has just come to realize her late husband’s genius status.
In 1970 John Lennon told Rolling Stone that he realized he was a genius at age 12:
“When I was about twelve, I used to think I must be a genius, but nobody’s noticed. Either I’m a genius or I’m mad, which is it? No, I said, I can’t be mad because nobody’s put me away; therefore I’m a genius…”
Strangely, Yoko Ono just realized her late husband was a genius in this past year. In an interview with Spinner Ono was asked how the 70th anniversary of Lennon’s birthday and the remastering and releasing of his solo records made her feel. Ono’s honest reply is interesting. She said “Sometimes I was choked up. When we were together I was a cocky artist, as myself, independent of John. I never said, “Oh John, you’re such a genius.” I never felt that way. I always felt we were equal in what we were doing. And when I heard all his music last year, I thought, “My God, he was a genius!”
