I know I’ve been on an Orioles kick lately. But after 14 years of losing, I think it’s justified. I was thinking the other day that the O’s have done a terrific job with the Oriole Legends celebrations and the statue revealings. It’s been great to see Frank, Eddie, Cal, Jim and Earl get recognition that will stand for all time at Camden Yards. I can’t wait for Saturday as one last tribute takes place for Mr. Oriole, Brooks Robinson. Arguably, the best third baseman of all time in major league baseball…and definitely for the Orioles.
But, all these celebrations got me thinking. There should also be a statue in Legends Park for Chuck Thompson. Without Chuck we wouldn’t know as much as we do about our player legends. He was the voice that came into our homes and cars that described all the action of the legends we’ve honored this year. From the 50′s to the 2000′s, Chuck made the Orioles “our team” through incredibly accurate/passionate play-by-play descriptions during hot Baltimore summer days and nights. Let’s get a Statue for Chuck at Camden Yards.
Come to think of it, maybe the Ravens should do one too at M & T Bank to honor the voice of the Baltimore Colts.
