Baltimore has its share of rowhouses with FormStone fronts. Film director and Baltimore native John Waters described formstone as “the polyester of brick.” FormStone is the artificial stone product that covered brick facades of many Baltimore rowhouses in the 1950′s and 1960′s. FormStone was used widely in Baltimore city. According to a local historian, FormStone was widely applied because it covered the porous and leaky bricks used in working class neighborhoods.
