Reporting Fran Lane
While driving along Falls Road, the unusual sight of parked old streetcars will turn your head. At times you’ll even see one traveling on streetcar tracks next to the road. When you spot these historic Baltimore relics you are passing by the Baltimore Streetcar Museum.
Run by volunteers who know and lovingly maintain several old streetcars, you can board one of these Baltimore beauties for a ride and learn about their special place in our past. It’s just as much fun for adults as it is for children. When you get seated, take a look at the old advertisements in the car just as they were displayed back then.
Inside the museum you’ll see vintage Baltimore photos of the streetcars as well as a lot of the equipment used on them. There’s a miniature streetcar garden with running streetcars and a lot more. The volunteers are glad to answer any questions you have and there is a great streetcar gift shop. Check out their website for more information: http://www.baltimorestreetcar.org/
