A California court has decided Fifty Shades of Grey is sexy enough as it is.
Last November, Universal sued a porn producer for an adaptation of the erotic novel claiming the XXX take, “was not a parody and it does not comment on, criticize, or ridicule the originals. It is a rip-off, plain and simple.”
On March 8, the court agreed, ruling that the porn company, Smash, could not make Fifty Shades of Grey: A XXX Adaptation, according to Deadline.
The settlement documents stated Smash Pictures would pay “a confidential sum to plaintiffs.”
Universal and Focus Features picked up the rights to EL James’ book series for reportedly more than $3 million dollars after a heated bidding war. The major motion picture is currently in development with screenwriter Kelly Marcel, who previously worked on the TV show Terra Nova.
Last year, Marcel told The Guardian the feature film would definitely push the envelope.
“We are 100 percent going there,” she said. ”It will be rated NC-17. It will be raunchy.”
No word yet on who will play the roles of Christian Grey or Anastasia Steele.
The release date has also been yet to be announced.
