Reporting Diane Lyn
George Jones, the “Possum” was 81. He died this morning at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville after being hospitalized with fever and irregular blood pressure.
In his more than 50 year career, he had number 1 songs in five separate decades, 1950s to 1990s, and was idolized not just by fellow country singers, but by Frank Sinatra, Pete Townshend, Elvis Costello, James Taylor and many others. I can remember after meeting Alan Jackson, I thought, THAT is the new breed of George Jones!
He was the ex-husband of country music legend, Tammy Wynette.
